Chien-Li Chen

Chien-Li Chen is a visual artist whose work explores the intersection of geometry, symbolism, and perception. A graduate of the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse in France, he creates layered compositions where color, form, and spatial relationships generate a sense of movement and contemplation.

Drawing from mathematics, language, and abstract visual systems, Chen transforms geometric structures and symbolic elements into poetic fields of perception. His work invites viewers to reflect on the relationship between logic and emotion, order and intuition, and the shifting nature of human experience.

Folded Time

Folded Time is composed of multiple intersecting planes of color. Oblique geometric forms overlap, penetrate, and obscure one another, allowing the space to appear as if it is constantly shifting. The darker areas give weight and stability to the composition, while brighter fragments emerge throughout the surface, creating a tension between stillness and flickering movement.

These colors are not simply placed side by side; they seem to carry overlapping sensations of time. Some are covered, some are pushed forward, and others appear only briefly along the edges, allowing the viewer to sense a layered accumulation of time.

Folded Time does not depict the passage of time, but rather the condition in which time is overlapped, concealed, and unfolded again within perception. The image therefore appears like a folded space, where memory, light, and emotion are reconfigured.

Crystal of Consciousness

Crystal of Consciousness transforms the fluid state of the psyche into a visible geometric structure. Refracted planes resemble fragments of thought frozen in an instant, compressing time as emotion and memory permeate translucent layers. These fractured forms are not static objects, but traces of inner movement—moments in which perception is briefly captured.

The granular texture suggests an energy that continues to vibrate beneath the surface, holding the image in a critical state despite its apparent stability. The condensation of color is not an endpoint, but a temporary equilibrium breathing within motion. Stability and tremor coexist, generating a spatial tension that remains in continuous formation.

A deep blue field establishes a vast and introspective psychological space, serving as a foundation of consciousness. Warm glimmers emerging within it echo emotional resonance, cutting through geometric order and sustaining a subtle, living instability. Structure thus exceeds mere form and becomes a visualization of mental activity.

Rather than depicting the external world, the work isolates an interior state. Invisible thought and sensation are translated into a perceivable architecture in which color becomes breath—rising and falling between flow and order—forming a field of perception that is both condensed and open.

Silent Composition

Domain of Resonance presents a layered visual structure composed of translucent color blocks that intersect and overlap without disrupting one another, resembling sound waves of different frequencies resonating within a shared space. The viewer can almost “hear” the rhythm and vibration of the image, sensing a quiet movement beneath its still surface.

Each chromatic layer symbolizes a distinct emotional or sensory state, ranging from calming blue-greens to more intense shades of purple and red. These layers function as fragments of emotion stacked together, gently echoing within the depths of consciousness. The work becomes a reflection of the ongoing dialogue between internal experience and external stimuli, forming an invisible yet tangible field of energy.

Domain of Resonance is a perceptual space without a fixed focal point, where only subtle visual and emotional echoes remain. The artist invites viewers to step away from rational analysis and enter this space through embodied perception and inner listening.

Ultimately, the piece speaks to a state of being—one in which we are constantly resonating, silently, with our environment, with others, and with ourselves, participating in an ongoing exchange of subtle energy beyond words.
